Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Inclusion at Eastry Primary School
At Eastry Church of England Primary School, everyone is welcome into our community, regardless of their individual needs or differences. All of our pupils, in spite of their needs or diagnosis, are provided with inclusive teaching which enables them to make the best possible progress. At our school, we have high expectations for all of our pupils and monitor them closely to ensure that they make good progress from their starting points and stage of development. Using our best endeavours, we provide our children with the support they need, alongside our broad and balanced curriculum to ensure they are successful in their learning. Working in partnership with our families, it is our aim that all of our pupils grow to become confident and resilient learners who are able to reach their full potential through adaptive teaching and inclusive learning approaches that promote independence.
SEND stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. A pupil has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability that requires special educational provision to be made for them which is additional and different to that of their peers.
A pupil is identified as having a SEND need if they have:
• A significantly greater difficulty in learning than most others of the same age, or
• A disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools
If you think your child may have a SEND need, please speak to your child’s class teacher or arrange an appointment with our Inclusion Leader and SENDCO, Miss Gillmore. Miss Gillmore can be contact at sgillmore@eastry.kent.sch.uk or telephoning the school on 01304 611360.
The needs of pupils with SEND are grouped into four broad areas. Pupils can have needs that overlap or span across more than one area, and their needs may change over time. Whole class approaches or bespoke interventions will be selected that are appropriate for the pupil’s particular area(s) of need, at the relevant time.
