Year 4 have been considering how and what the ancient Egyptians traded. We considered what goods the Egyptians had in abundance which they could then export to neighbouring counties and continents. We then looked at what the Egyptians could import using the Nile as their main trading route such as precious gems and olive oil. These routes meant traders set up in the markets alongside the Nile to quickly trade, sell and swap goods. To imagine what this was like, children took on the role of traders and had goods they had to trade. They quickly realised what was in in short supply and what goods were not worth as much.
