Year 1

Year 1 Curriculum

Curriculum Statement

In many cases topics are not taught in isolation or as discrete topics but are linked together using cross curricular links identified by the class teacher.

The school uses Letters and Sounds to teach phonics. Each child is tracked through the stages of the scheme. Children who need extra support are given sessions in small groups. Some children, who have significant phonic difficulty, are given individual work once or twice a day. The school uses a variety of reading books. Some books are phonetically based; others use word or sentience clues.
